Heart of a Sadhu

A sadhu or a saint, who is the embodiment of love, truth, devotion, and purity. A sadhu, who renounces all the material pleasures, worldly joys, and physical ties. A sadhu who always thinks for the benefit of all mankind without any discrimination. A sadhu who strictly follows five vows of niskam, nirman, niswad, nisneh, & nirlobh. Of whom the great scriptures like Bhagvatam, Vedas and Upanishads proclaim the profoundness. Lord Krishna has said in the Bhagvatam that, Saint is His heart and He is the heart of a Saint. Bhagwan Swaminarayan says that think such sadhu as par with the Supreme God (Sant te swayam Hari).

Param Pujya Pramukh Swami Maharaj (1921-2016) was one of the greatest saint of our time. He was the fifth spiritual successor of Lord Swaminarayan and the president of  BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha (a socio-spiritual organization). All the qualities mentioned above and in all the holy scriptures were naturally present in his divine life. His life motto was, ‘In the joy of others, lies our own.’

The topic of this essay is Heart of a Sadhu. If you look into the heart of Pramukh Swami. If you read about his life; you will find that there was an ocean of love present in his heart for all of us. There wasn’t an iota of self-interest in his heart. He lived for others and according to the agna of his guru Shashtri Ji Maharaj and Bhagwan Swaminarayan. He initiated hundreds of young educated youth into the sadhu-fold and led them to live a life dedicated to God and for the upliftment of society.

Today we will talk about one of such talented and dedicated sadhu of BAPS. His name is Sadhu Amrutvadandas.

Sadhu Amrutvadandas was initiated into the sadhu-fold in 1996. He is an excellent artist, and a writer with good oratory skills. He also loves to play guitar. He showcases his deep love towards his guru Pramukh Swami Maharaj and Bhagwan Swaminarayan through his various enchantable paintings. He considers his paintings as a spiritual endeavor and a way to connect with God more deeply. He hopes that his works ignite pure spirituality in others.
