Shri Hanuman Chalisa

Ever since I was a small kid I had a unique fascination for temples, bells and prayers and if there was someone whom I adored reverently then it was Lord Shri Ram. One day I just stumbled upon a small pocket-size book of Shri Hanuman Chalisa in my home, it had beautifully drawn colorful pictures on it along with the couplets, I started reading it. I was five-year-old then or may be lesser but since then it became a practice to recite those forty couplets daily in the evening which is relevant even to the day till now. And ever since that day the enthusiasm for it and the devotion for the God has been just increasing day-by-day.

There is some power in the words of great people that they influence the swiftest of steps towards something positive and greater. Tulsidas ji who wrote the Ramcharitmanas also wrote the Hanuman Chalisa and there is a beautiful story illustrated about it. Once he was put into confinement for forty days by the Mughal emperor Akbar. And Tulsidas ji wrote about the glory of the most idol devotee of Lord Rama – Shri Hanuman ji. Each day he wrote one couplet remembering the divine nature of Lord Shri Ram and His companion devotee Shri Hanuman ji. And at the end of the fortieth day, an army of monkeys gathered around there in the court of emperor Akbar which eventually led to the release of Tulsidas ji.

In the thirty eighth duplet, Tulsidas ji himself tells the mahima of reciting the Hanuman Chalisa. He says, that, one who recites and read it for hundred times, he naturally gets liberated from all the bondages of this life and attains the supreme happiness.

Lord Hanuman ji an embodiment of the ideal dedicated devotee of Lord Ram teaches us about how can we surrender ourselves to the God and serve Him faithfully.
